Is TiVo the "Beta" of DVR

I was quite saddened by Steve Johnson's assertion in the Chicago Tribune that TiVo may be to the Beta-Max of DVR technology. How can my beloved TiVo be the future loser to an inferior yet popular trend, the Comcast DVR. It is a real loss for the DVR world to see the potential for this pioneer to one day pack up and be replaced by the less powerful, less user friendly, cable provider system.
